I’m Bella!  And this is my "Gem of the Week" Feature!  This week’s "Gem" is Georgia’s story.
Georgia is 3 years old and started life as part of a litter of puppies born in a shelter in Sampson County, NC. She and her brothers and sisters contracted parvovirus and were in a pretty bad way in the beginning. In fact, some of Georgia’s siblings went over the rainbow before they had the chance to be adopted by a family. When Crate Escape (my alma mater) came to get the pups they were told not to bring them along. They were too sick...Crate Escape was told they may not make it. If you ever met Heather and the Crate Escape gang, you know their hearts wouldn’t hear that and Georgia (then Debra) was put on the transport along with her siblings Dee-Dee and Dexter.

Here’s the rest of Georgia’s story:

Georgia came to be part of the Tompkins family when she arrived in a Transport van from South Carolina. They were her foster family and took her in so she could start to learn how to be part of a family until she was adopted. She is what we in the rescue game call a “Foster Failure.” That’s cause the family failed to get her adopted before they fell in love with her and made her part of their family. ;-)

It really was meant to be because every day when the dad came home, Georgia would RUN to him so happy and excited to see him. The mom knew Georgia would be a perfect Father’s Day gift. And she was.

Georgia’s Biggest Fan -
Georgia’s hum-aunt is definitely her biggest fan. She lets Georgia come and stay with them whenever her family goes away. Her hum-aunt also has a dog named Leah who is definitely Georgia’s BFF.

Georgia’s Adjustment to Family Life -
Georgia has separation anxiety. That’s a tough one. It makes it hard for her to see her family leave. So that stresses her and everyone out. Luckily Georgia is so awesome and everyone loves her so much they don’t even care that it makes things a little harder.

Georgia’s Special Talents -
Georgia is an awesome dancer! She twirls something fierce! Also we can both high five and that rocks!
A few words from Georgia’s Human -
“When we first adopted Georgia, we had just purchased a second home in Rhode Island. We were new to the neighborhood. I met lots of the neighbors from walking Georgia around. She was pretty scary then with her hair loss. She reminded me of a Chupacabra. The people I first met kind of shied away from her because of her looks. But now they know her as "crazy Georgia". She's a very exuberant dog....But her coat grew back nicely! She has definitely changed our quiet household to one of laughs and chaos but she's also filled the void that was missing in our hearts. (We) wouldn't trade her for the world and we're sticking with her even though she's quite the handful at times.”

Georgia’s Origins?
Crate Escape rescued Georgia. Another thing we have in common. =)

If you have a dog whose story deserves to be told (um, all of ‘em!) then send it to me at gems@accordingtobella.com.

It's me....Georgia's hmm-aunt. Great story, I can vouch for that! Also that she made such a huge transformation from her sickly beginnings, you would never know that she once had a terrible case of mange. Don't judge a book by her cover! Love you my little Georgilina! Aunty Linda
